The inaugurate committee of Robert and Mari Maclntyre, John R McColl, Dave Kinsman and Fred Garden, started the Rosneath Highland Games nearly 30 years ago in 1978,which has gone from strength to strength, supported by the Local Community Council and Local Businesses through the years.
Over the years, the games have been attended by people from all over the World, along with World Class Heavy Weights, including Bill and Grant Anderson, Geoff Capes, Hamish Davidson, Brian Robin, Douglas Edmonds and the late Jon Pall Sigmarsson to name but a few, the list would be endless, cyclists and runners of all ages have also competed in the track events.
The Rosneath Games boasts of having the largest Solo Piping Competition in the country, which attracts hundreds of hopefuls every year,we are now on a par with Cowal, Oban, and Inveraray Highland Games.
The competitions Convener Helen Campbell has had regular entrants from Australia, Italy, USA, Northern Ireland and from all over the UK, taking part in Open Chanter, local and open Solo Piping
Marches,Strathspey's and Reels, these are just a taste of the music to be heard in the competition.
The Games are rightly famous for its Highland Dancing, the Dance Convener Mrs Margaret Maclnnes had Spanish and Canadian Music and Dance Troupes taking part last year, they were a great success and we hope to attract more of these groups in the future.
Rosneath's local Argyll Peninsula Pipe Band consisting of people as young as 8 years old, lead the the Parade together with the Central Scotland Police Pipes and Drums and Dancers through the village to the Howie Park where this years game will be officially opened by the Chieftain, Provost Mr William Petrie OBE.
