ROSNEATH PENINSULA HIGHLAND GATHERING
CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME TO THE 2013 GATHERING
SUNDAY 14th JULY 2013
Howie Park, Rosneath, Argyll & Bute, G84 0RJ, Scotland

ROBERT MacINTYRE
CHAIRMAN
Welcome to the Rosneath Peninsula Highland Gathering website and thank you for taking the time to find out more about our event. The 2013 Gathering will take place on Sunday 14th July at the Howie Park in Rosneath, a small village situated on the shores of the Gareloch near Helensburgh in Argyll & Bute, approximately 30 miles north of Glasgow.
The Gathering is now in to its 34th year and having been a founding member of the Highland Games back in 1979, I have met and talked with many thousands of visitors over the years. I know that people come here to enjoy the colour and spectacle of a traditional village Highland Games, and themany other attractions that are laid on to make this a very special and fun day out for all the family. And I can assure you that is exactly what you will find in Rosneath should you choose to come and visit us in 2013.
The Rosneath Peninsula Highland Gathering prides itself on its international reputation and we welcome all our competitors be they from within our own local communities, from across Scotland and the UK, or from the other side of the world. Everyone - competitors and visitors alike - can expect a warm welcome here.
The Highland Games is made up of a series of competitions which include the heavy events - tossing the caber and all the other traditional evets - cycling and athletics and the tug-of-war competition, as well as the Highland Dancing and Solo Piping competitions which go on throughout the day. As well as the competitions there are other attractions for all the family to try their hand at including archery, testing out those strongman skills by attempting to lift the St Modan’s Stone and the chance for the children to prove to their parents that they really can walk on water! If that is all far too energetic, there are stalls to browse, food and drink outlets to enjoy, or just relaxing and enjoying the restful ambience of the picturesque setting of the Games.
Without the continued support of our Sponsors and Supporters the Gathering would not take place and I want to thank Argyll & Bute Council, Rosneath Castle Caravan Park Ltd and all our other Sponsors who have continued to support this event over the years. I hope that in the present very difficult financial climate our Sponsors and Supporters will continue to provide this support to a long established event which provides great family entertainment for visitors and competitors from right around the world.
The Committee and I extend a warm welcome to you and hope to see you on Sunday 14th JULY 2013. Gates open at 9 am for the Highland Dancing and Solo Piping Competitions and the Grand Parade takes place at 12.30pm. The Highland Games events start at 1 pm.
